Progressive Coaching for Teams and Clubs
Tactical Development was created by the NSCAA as a coaching tool designed to help clubs and teams go beyond just participation.Tactical Development will create a coaching connection that is stronger than just the team name and uniform. There should be technical and tactical connections between what happens when one age group progresses to the next age group.
Tactical Development focuses on teaching the individual player the responsibilities and possibilities of the positions in the diamond formation that will remain the same regardless of the number of players on a team. Through the use of on field action and computer graphics, Tactical Development covers the 5v5, 8v8 and 11v11, as well as 6v6 small-sided games

NSCAA Coaching 8v8 Soccer
To Teach 11v11 Tactics
As an interim step between small-sided games and 11v11, 8v8 soccer has enough numbers to provide a clear picture of how to implement the principles of the game within various team shapes. The 8v8 game also presents many technical and tactical teaching opportunities for coaches and older players, depending on which system is utilized.
This DVD illustrates how different playing systems within the 8v8 format enable coaches to teach attacking and defending principles of the game. Various systems of play are covered and how they relate to the 11v11 game. Systems covered on this DVD include the attacking and defending principles of the 2-3-2, 3-3-1, 3-2-2 and the 2-4-1.
Why the 8v8?
The 8v8 is becoming popular all over the world for many reasons:
- The coach can, to a degree, replicate the 4-4-2 by playing a 3-3-1, or a 3-4-3 by playing a 2-3-2, and so on
- The 8v8 enables players to replicate many of the tactical functions which occur in the 11v11 game. For example, the 3-3-1 allows fullbacks to overlap as they do in a 4-4-2
- Players are allowed the opportunity to exercise the technical functions they perform in a game
- It is a good system for intra-squad practices since many teams are made up of 16-18 players

Methods For Teaching Attacking Soccer
The NSCAA 6v6 Model
Methods For Teaching Attacking Soccer- The NSCAA 6v6 Model covers three methods for teaching soccer tactics in attacking play: Coaching In The Game Methodology, Progressive soccer Methodology and Small Sided soccer Games to teach tactics.
In the first section, using the concept of Coaching In The Game Methodology, the coach will learn how to train a soccer team's attacking tactical understanding through using a 6v6 format with very active play and start positions allowing maximum touches on the ball to simulate the reality of moving from one third of the field to another. The Progressive Methodology section begins with possession games and moves all the way to a realistic soccer game with two large goals with goalkeepers. This section features the use of the 4v2 to teach penetrating passes, and the 5v3 to teach changing the point of attack. In this section the coach learns to move the training of attacking tactics from simple to complex and from clarity to reality in a progressive fashion. In the Small-sided Games section the soccer coach learns how to design and implement free flowing and realistic games for teaching for specific topics in the attack- penetration, possession, runs off the ball and where and when to run off the ball. The coach also learns to use these games to teach the principles of attack: width, depth, mobility and penetration.
